The modern family looks a great deal different than it did even a century ago. Photographer, painter and graphic artist Natalia Wiernik pushes that idea further in her ongoing series The Protagonists. Wiernik’s subjects come from varying backgrounds – some are related and some are not, but each group is knit together by some eccentric passion or lifestyle.
Based on the notion that emotional closeness most often comes from shared experiences and values, The Protangists champions the kinship of oddity. Each scene is draped with fabulous, colorful textures and we are only allowed to guess at what exactly draws these individuals together. Wiernik is still looking for various “families”.
