For Sublet, photography team Tribble & Mancenido, composed of husband James Frank Tribble and wife Tracey Mancenido-Tribble, sublet various apartments around New York City, settling for a few months in neighborhoods like Park Slope, Clinton Hill, Bed-Stuy, and the Upper West Side. Examining the homes of others by shooting the possessions they keep, they link our intimate inner worlds with a more universal sense of the domestic sphere.
With these seemingly inconsequential items, they give shape to private life in these surrogate homes, making tangible their elusive comforts and distinctive atmospheres. The objects they photograph are both ambiguous and specific, signifying a particular thing to one person while remaining open to an infinite number of personal meanings.
Tribble & Mancenido presented Sublet on July 21, 2014 as their MFA solo thesis show in an AIRBNB rented home in the Financial District. In addition the the images, they presented and served meals home cooked by their mothers, sharing the Filipino and Southern flavors they themselves associate with home.
