North Carolina-based photographer Neil Craver plunges us headlong into an underwater subconscious in his series Omni-Phantasmic. The title refers to a presence that is all-consuming yet intangible, much like Craver’s models who are suspended in the beautiful chaos of the water-filled quarry surrounding them. A surreal and emotive spirit haunts every frame, the reality of the surface often just visible above the fray. Aside from the technical prowess necessary to accomplish each captivating shot, Craver uses the alien colors and depths of the quarry to transcend something beyond the physical and evoke the vertigo of simply letting go.
