The ‘One-Dog Policy’ Photo Series Looks at Lonely Canines

If ever there is a presence imbued with the spirit of our homes, it would be our pets. Photographer Maija Astikainen draws a portrait of the furry lords of the urban domicile in her series One-Dog Policy. The ongoing project was shot in multiple homes in Helsinki, Finland and Madrid, Spain, capturing with lounging decadence and suspicious curiosity the true masters of city apartments and high rises. Fascinated with the spaces and personalities of these animals, Astikainen attempts to find the human qualities pets possess in living as the only four-legged creature in their home.
