Swedish photographer Lisa Strombeck morphs pet and owner into one cleverly cropped mash-up in her series Uniform. With owners adorned in fur coats that match their pets’ fur in texture and color, it’s hard to tell where man ends and animal begins.
While Strombeck captures the affectionate and intimate coupling of the two, there is also a tension present—a power play of sorts—and we can’t ignore the irony of fur coats that come from the slaughter of animals snuggled up close to the living, breathing ones. While capturing that intimate bond between pet and owner in a fantastically unique way, Strombeck also seems to be exploring our need, our desire for unconditional love with no strings attached or messy psychological baggage that animals seem to give so willingly.
