Photographer Dave Watts weaves in and out of the goddesses and green men, looking for portrait subjects— just as he did the year before.
The Glastonbury Tor dates back to the time of King Arthur, and dominates the landscape in Somerset, England. The town itself has been a center of pilgrimage for thousands of years, and continues to attract people with a wide range of beliefs. Watts has been documenting the characters that are magnetized to this modern-day mythical town in his series, Avalon.
Through Watts’ eyes, we can see that Glastonbury is not just an epicenter for festival-goers in wellies and glitter, it is much more profound than that. It’s a vibrant new-age community full of witches, druids, green men and healers— those seeking to connect with an ancient alternative lifestyle through the energy of a spiritual and sacred land.
