Alison Zavos, the Founder of Feature Shoot, has selected the winning photograph for our latest initiative, The Global Billboard Project. The Belgian photographer Elisa Maenhout, whose work explores the boundary between reality and dreams, will have her picture displayed on a billboard in Manhattan’s Fashion District. Just a stone’s throw from Time’s Square, the work will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people over a two-week period.
The winning photo, Mermaid Iris, is part of Maenhout’s series A Depth Most Would Drown In, a project examining the mythology of mermaids and the modern women who identify with their stories. Creating folklore for the 21st century, the photographer delves into the murky underwater world of the imagination, while also playing on the relationship between the real world and the realm of make-believe and fantasy. The portrait of Iris was created in the clear waters of Devil’s Eye in Ginnie Springs, Orlando, Florida.
We are now accepting submissions for the second edition of The Global Billboard Project, our ongoing initiative introducing the public to talented photographers through a series of billboards in major cities throughout the world. The next billboard will go up in Chippendale, a trendy inner city suburb of Sydney, Australia, on the southern edge of the Central Business District (CBD). The winning photograph will be on display for four weeks this spring, running from May 10th to June 6th, 2021.
