In his magical series Un regard, Kinshasa-based photographer Kiripi Katembo Siku has made a beautiful, dream-like series on Kinshasa, the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo, by taking pictures of the reflections of his city in garbage-riddled pools of water in the streets.Though the idea is far from unique, the approach takes on a new life because of the subject and application. The effect of the composition is hallucinatory, and as with anything skewed in photography these days, the first thought is that Photoshop is an element. But these are simply, yet carefully, photographed scenes caught in reflection in the colorfully reflected streets during more regular, quiet moments of daily life in a city that is usually heard about in the context of conflict.
