Christopher Anderson’s Beautiful Reflection on Fathers and Fatherhood

It’s a well-established fact that the birth of a child changes everything. For Brooklyn-based photographer Christopher Anderson, having his son not only impacted his daily existence but radically altered the course of his career. Son, published by Kehrer Verlag, shows this shift. Anderson had won awards for his work in conflict photography, but when his wife gave birth to their son and he simultaneously found out his father had been diagnosed with lung cancer, his focus shifted. He writes, “Through my son, my role as the son took on new meaning and my senses were hypertuned to the evidence of my own life passing. Then these photographs just sort of happened. They are a record of love and a reflection on the seasonal nature of life.”
